Part 1: MSVA type approval.

Step 1 : Fully build the bike per instructions, making sure you attach the rear reflectors, do not attach the front light guard at this time, as instructed.

Step 2 : Download both documents APPLICATION FOR A

MINISTER’S APPROVAL CERTIFICATE (MSVA 1) and GUIDANCE NOTES FOR COMPLETING AN APPLICATION FOR A MINISTER’S APPROVAL CERTIFICATE (MSVA 1) found here :

Step 3 : Fill in the application form and save it to your computer. Make sure to enter your own personal details, the bike's unique VIN number and your chosen method of payment.

Please note at the time of this document the test fee is £85

Step 4 : On completion please attach your fully completed application to TAS, Link here : https://tas.dvsa.gov.uk/tass/create

Step 5 : Once your application has been received and processed, you will be contacted via email to book your appointment.

During this time make sure that you accustom yourself with the full functions of the bike, as you will be asked to demonstrate these during the test.

Step 6 : On the day of the test, please arrive with a crash helmet and the required safety clothing for riding, as you may be required to show some aspects of the bike functioning with the rider on the bike. Failure to meet these requirements may result in your test being canceled, resulting in having to rebook and pay another test fee.

Step 7 : Once the test is completed you will receive a test certificate, which will allow you to register the bike and apply for registration plates.

In order to register a vehicle you will need to send your application to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BE.
You will also need to present documentation to confirm your identity. Documentation required to register brand new vehicles
  • - V55/4 Application to Register and Tax a brand new vehicle
  • - registration fee of £55*
  • - fee for vehicle tax* (the rates of vehicle tax for all vehicle types are available on the website: www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables)
  • - valid insurance certificate or cover note for vehicles registered with a Northern Ireland address (downloaded or faxed copies are acceptable, however photocopies are not) - identity documents (copies not originals)
  • - evidence of type approval (if applicable see note below)
  • - dating evidence from the manufacturer or any documentation relating to the vehicle
  • - declaration that a vehicle is new form V267
If the vehicle was manufactured outside of the UK, you are required to notify HMRC immediately when a vehicle arrives in the UK. You can find out more at: www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/telling-hmrc If the vehicle was manufactured in the UK, you do not need to notify HMRC, you will need to include evidence confirming this. The vehicle will need to be available for inspection (not guaranteed).
*Payment should be made by cheque or postal order, payable to DVLA Swansea.
If the vehicle is being registered to an individual confirmation of name (one from the list below, photocopies are acceptable)
  • - DVLA driving licence (photocard or paper)
  • - UK/EU or foreign passport - marriage certificate - decree nisi or absolute - birth certificate
Confirmation of address (one from the list below)
  • - utility bill within the last 3 months e.g. gas, electricity water, landline telephone (valid within the last 3 months)
  • - bank/building society statement ( valid within the last 3 months)
  • - medical card
  • - council tax bill for current year
If the vehicle is being registered to a Company please submit two of the following, one of which must show the company address:
  • - Companies House registration certificate (embossed)
  • - VAT registration certificate
  • - utility bill sent to your business dated within the last three months
  • - national non
  • -Domestic Rate bill or Northern Ireland rates bill
  • - bank/building society statement for your business dated within the last 3 months - certificate of company insurance
  • - letter from HM Revenue & Customs showing the company details and tax reference number
  • - company mortgage statement
  • - property leasing agreement - solicitor’s letter relating to the purchase of your business premises
  • - consumer credit licence
